Referral
A referral is submitted by a case manager or claims adjuster. Our team will review and will issue a Evaluation and Treatment Agreement

Authorization
The carrier will then sign the Evaluation & Treatment Agreement and provide proof of payment. This step allows us to reserve Dr. Vijapura’s time.

Schedule
Our office will then promptly arrange their first session either in-person or via telehealth based on the patient’s convenience and location.

Dr. Vijapura conducts thorough psychiatric evaluations and provides treatment by integrating psychotherapy and medication

After each appointment, we share appointment documentation, future schedule, and ensure the case is progressing towards recovery.

How We Navigate Your Recovery
Recovery is more than physical. Early identification of psychological stress can shorten claim duration by 60–70%. To achieve this, we follow a standardized Clinical Decision Pathway of Screen, Evaluate, and Diagnosis.
Screen
Screening tools are not diagnoses, they are signals. They allow case stakeholders including primary care physicians, case managers, or even the injured workers themselves to identify potential barriers to recovery.

PC-PTSD-5
A rapid, 6-item screen designed to be used in primary care settings. This is a "Signal" tool. Answering "Yes" to 3 or more is a strong indicator that a formal psychiatric evaluation is the next necessary step. Link to example.

PCL-5
The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist is a comprehensive 20-item self-report that assesses the severity of PTSD symptoms. It is mapped directly to the DSM-5 to ensure clinical precision. Link to example.

PHQ-9
The industry standard for depression screening. This 9-item tool helps us measure the frequency and intensity of depressive symptoms that often co-occur with physical injuries. Link to Example.
Evaluate
Once a signal is identified, the next step is to "Investigate". A high score on a screening tool is a call to action. It indicates that the workplace injury has triggered emotional responses (stress, anxiety, or frustration) that can slow healing and delay the return to work.
Diagnosis and IME
If there is a high signal, the case should be escalated for a formal Psychiatric Diagnosis or an Independent Medical Examination (IME).
Only a detailed evaluation by a psychiatrist can:
Establish a legal diagnosis.
Determine medical causation.
Map symptoms to all 7 DSM-5 criteria for PTSD.
Differentiate between PTSD, Acute Stress Disorder, or Adjustment Disorder to ensure the right treatment path.
The bottom line: The wrong diagnosis leads to the wrong treatment and a prolonged claim. Screening "gets you to the door," but a comprehensive evaluation by an experienced Workers' Compensation Psychiatrist like Dr. Vijapura "opens it" to a safe and timely return to work.
